I bought this even though I saw a lot of people complaining about getting the WebCam working. I am happy I did. As part of the install, you must attach the included USB cable to the monitor. This will allow the WebCam to be recognised by the PC. In XP, the WebCam worked just fine without installing any additional software. I decided to try the ASUS software anyhow, and it includes a bunch of nice extras (special effects, overlays, etc…) I am positive that all of the negative reviews regarding the camera had to do with not attaching the USB cable.

The monitor itself is great. Now we play Lego Star Wars II at 1920×1080.

I am a professional 15 years old experienced digital artist. I am working with professional screens at work, I also have dell 24wfp at home, I order this monitor from amazon for using dual screen for my reference pictures and web browsing on the other monitor, I wasn’t expecting amazing quality, but I am really surprised with the image quality, my $800 Dell monitor is only slightly better then this Asus. First time I plug it, it was too bright, I mean the images, not the screen. I was kind of disappointed. Then I discover the scenery mode and I tweak the brightness, sharpness and the saturation, like about 5-10 minutes I get almost the same image like my dell monitor. Do not bother the other setups, just select the scenery mode and put this settings up,

Brightness 51, Contras 64, Sharpness 44, Saturation 50 or 55. so it’s pretty much the same as calibrated dell 24wfp screen.

There is some downs on this monitor too, Up and down angles are getting darker, Left right is better, you don’t move your head up and down much so if you can get the right angle it will work great. if you like to put your monitor high up, you are going to hate the stand, it is horrible. You can not move your monitor up and down, I put a ikea furniture piece to raise it up.

it is looking good actually, I glued some artwork on it, now it looks retro, I love it, but I am lucky that I have this furniture piece, Otherwise I might going to use books to raise it so it could be looks boring because I can only use my old Stephen king books as a raiser. :)

There is also details lost on light images, it is very very slight, sharpness is great, colors are amazing, I turn down the green a little like %3 to match my pro screen. So overall I am very pleased with this monitor even after stand and brightness works.

I still draw my images on my dell screen, because it’s a bit better, also it has 1920×1600, so there is 120 pixel difference vertically.

so, it is perfect for second monitor, but if it is your only monitor and you are a digital artist, buy pro monitors. For other type of user this monitor is supersonic! Actually even if you are digital artist with a tight budget or if you are a beginner artist, it might be your favorite monitor.

if my pro screen dies, I might get one more Asus, and use that $600 difference for buying 600 glow stick from dollar stores then crack them at the same time and watch them.

Other then the image quality, I never test the speakers or HDMI I don’t care.

Digital camera is not working with XP 64 bit because there is no driver, so it feels like my asus monitor has a blind eye on top of her head.

Anyways this is a good buy, for $209, it’s a steal. I recommend this monitor anyone except digital artist who is going to use it as a main monitor as a main monitor.

And “wow!” again. It’s big, it’s bright, it’s fast. No dead pixels. The built-in webcam is a nice gadget. The speakers aren’t the greatest, but if you’re using speakers built into a monitor, you probably don’t care about that. The base sticks out the front, which is a little annoying, but it’s easily removed and it has VESA mounting holes.

I’m probably going to be buying a second one of these and use it with a TV tuner adapter.

I just got this monitor, have been using it only for 2 days. The price is a good deal at 230$ range and the monitor is presenting a really good view so far. Ran some tests to detect whether there are noticeable dead pixels but did not come across any, guess I am lucky or just they were to small to notice on huge screen.

I would definitely advise this monitor to people that are looking for a cheaper solution especially for gaming.

I have not tried the speakers nor the webcam on it – since I do not need them.

I bought this monitor through Amazon and for the price it is an extremely good deal. 24″ with a very high contrast level of 20,000:1 and a 2ms response time. It seemed a bit too good to be true and as usual there was one small drawback. There is a dead pixel almost right in the middle of the screen that I barely notice but to some users this could be a tipping point. Many reviews I read had this as a concern and since it does not bother me I went ahead with it anyway.

My main use for the monitor is programming where high contrast is a must and perfect color is not as important. I do some design using Adobe Photoshop and I often find that the colors are different as compared to many other standard monitors. I do understand that I could perfect the color settings of the monitor but this is not a worry to me so I have not cared. If you are looking to use the monitor for graphic design purposes I would not recommend it.

As for watching movies it is more then adequate if you are willing to watch on a 24″ screen. The quality is superb and the contrast leads to an enjoyable viewing experience.

As an added point, the monitor does come with an embedded webcam. I am using this connected to my Mac Book Pro through the miniDisplay port. (You will need a DVI adapter to do this) I was initially not able to use the webcam with Mac though a new update came out and it works perfectly with mac OS X

Overall I would rate the monitor a 3/5 due to its dead pixel and lack of standardized coloring.
